NEW RELICS FOR A CONTEMPORARY ART WORLD

Livingstone Gallery - The Hague, Netherlands

September 2 - October 28, 2012

ADRIAAN REES

For this show I choose to make the gallery space into one big installation. I made a nice selection of the glass boxes with white porcelain sculptures inside: fragile and pale works in their own protected world. No touch! All works were made in my own studio in Jingdezhen, China.

A group of small boxes were hanging at the wall, named From the book of Nature and From the book of Men. Two big glass boxes were standing in front of the window with arms and a torso. The major work was a large glass box at the wall called The Wing.

Only one work was without a glass box in the show: Angel with Butterflies. This piece I especially made for Shusaku, the world famous Japanese director and dancer from Shusaku Dormu Dance Theatre. For the opening ceremony he performed his Butterfly Dance in the gallery, please watch the video here about this amazing performance!
